AN acre of gorse went up in flames on the Quantock Hills last night (Friday, June 15).

Firefighters from Nether Stowey, Bridgwater, Williton and Minehead attended the incident on land near Holford just before 9pm, having received multiple calls from members of the public.

On arrival the officer confirmed that approximately one acre of thick heavy gorse was on fire, and the team swiftly got to work using beaters and two 'fogging units'.

Within half an hour the crews had the fire under control and continued to dampen down the area until the fire was completely out.
