A BRIDGWATER man said he is 'lucky his home was not blown to pieces' after a fire broke out in a garage containing a gas cylinder below his flat.

The fire broke out in Riverside Close, Bridgwater, and crews were called after black smoke was seen issuing from the garage at just before 6pm on Thursday evening.

Three fire engines attended and on arrival the firefighters confirmed the ground floor garage, which had a coach house above it, was well alight.

Crews got to work with two hose reel jets and a main jet to tackle the blaze.

The fire is believed to started via an accidental ignition due to an electrical charger.

The garage was severely damaged and a motorcycle destroyed in the blaze.

Steve Treasure, who lives in coach house above his neighbour's garage, said: "My flat only seems to have suffered a bit of smoke damage.

"There was a gas cylinder in the garage, if that had gone up it could have blown my home to pieces."
