A PROJECT from Bawdrip History Group to create a village railway trail has won £7,600 of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Bawdrip History Group has teamed up with Bawdrip Parish Council to create a village trail, which is linked to three interpretation boards and tell the story of the railway that once passed through the village.

The group announced they had won the funds, which will pay for 85 per cent of the project, at a launch event on April 14.

Jan Culverhouse and Pam Earnshaw, joint leaders of the Bawdrip Heritage Project opened the evening.

Jan thanked everyone for the support they had given to them during the application process.

After failing on the first attempt Jan and Pam had been given huge support from the community and on January 16 learned that their second attempt had been successful.

The group had had to wait for planning permission for the boards before the launch could happen.

Jan thanked Richard Culverhouse, chairman of Bawdrip Parish Council for undertaking that task.

And Pam thanked the project's sponsors – Western Power Distribution, Polden Post, Community Café, Bawdrip Ladies, Solar Sam and the History Group.

She then outlined events throughout the year which will include walks, talks and workshops.

The Andrews' Sister folk trio performed a variety of songs from Cecil Sharp's collections which celebrated Somerset's musical history and The Bawdrip Little House Band performed in between times with a debut public performance.
