TWO properties and a street sign have been damaged after an accidental bin fire in Bridgwater

Firefighters were called at 5.17am today (April 20) to Friarn Street in Bridgwater after reports that something was on fire.

One fire engine from Bridgwater went to the scene.

When firefighters arrived they discovered that a wheelie bin store was on fire and the fire had started to affect a nearby building.

The officer in charge asked for an additional pump to be sent to the scene.

A second fire engine from Bridgwater was sent to the scene.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said:" Due to the close proximity to residential buildings, fire crews evacuated nearby properties as a precaution while they tackled the fire using two hose reel jets.

"The bin store, measuring 10m x 2m, was 100 per cent damaged by the fire.

"The fire also caused slight damage to two adjacent semi-detached, three-storey properties, and a street sign."

Two hose reel jets and drag forks were used to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have been accidental.
