SEDGEMOOR has recently been targeted by some unusual thieves, who have been helping themselves to drain covers from the district's roads.

More than 60 have been stolen in the past two weeks.

Liam Gill, of Somerset Highways, said: "Drain covers are costly to replace and their absence creates a safety hazard to road users.

"Somerset County Council wishes to reassure road users that the covers are being replaced as soon as we are notified of their theft and that road users' safety is paramount."

Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
