SOMERSET Bridge Primary School is celebrating having been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag award.

After running the Eco Schools Club for six years - and following a lot of hard work and commitment - the school passed a thorough environmental review by the committee behind the scheme.

This has enabled Somerset Bridge to gain the coveted Green Flag status.

The committee evaluated the school in nine areas including transport, litter and waste.

The children have been busy carrying out regular recycling in the school and even completing a number of litter picks in the local area.

Teacher James Ryder, the school's eco-council leader, said: "Our eco-warriors at Somerset Bridge have done us proud by helping us achieve the highest eco award available to schools through their desire to try and make the world a better place."
