A SWAN has been rescued by Secret World Widlife Rescue after it collapsed on a path near Bawdrip.

The poorly swan was brought into the wildlife centre in East Huntspill by reponse driver, Graeme Thompson.

Animal carer Sarah Tingvoll, assessed the bird when it arrived at the centre and said it is now recovering at the centre.

“The swan had no obvious injuries so was given supportive care and transferred to a water tank for some rest," Sarah said.

“Around 60 per cent of admitted water birds brought into Secret World’s centre are injured by discarded fishing tackle, an issue caused by those irresponsible with their waste.”

A spokesman for Secret World said swans are among the largest birds that are cared for by the wildlife centre.

Although people tend to be scared of swans, they are one of the favourites to feed at local ponds and lakes.

The swan will continue his recovery in the centre’s water paddock for the final stage of rehabilitation, before being released back into the wild.
