BRIDGWATER’S Mark Godbeer was beaten by Russian debutant Dmitriy Sosnovskiy at UFC London on Saturday (March 17).

Godbeer’s bout was first up at the O2 Arena and he was on the back foot initially but fought back well before the end of the first round.

After both men traded blows, Sosnovskiy landed the vital shot in the second round with a punch that left Godbeer wobbling.

The Russian then wrapped the Bridgwater man round the neck, locked him in a rear-naked choke and earned a tap with 31 seconds left in the frame.

Speaking afterwards, Godbeer said: “I knew it was going to be a tough fight.

“I knew he was going to be a strong guy and I knew he was going to try and close the distance, but I just wanted to keep the fight going and entertain the crowd.”, and hopefully we did that.

“I made a few mistakes and I know what those mistakes were.

“Hey, this is the UFC – people are at the top of the game – if you make one mistake, the fight is over.

"I’m gutted to lose but our job is to entertain and hopefully I gave the crowd what they wanted tonight.”
