A BIDDING war broke out for a three-bedroom house before it sold for nearly three times its freehold guide price.

The semi-detached property at 12 Manse Lane, in Puriton, near Bridgwater, was among the lots listed for sale by regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson.

With a guide of £50,000 to £60,000, bids kept rising until the auctioneer’s gavel came down at £172,000.

It was auctioned on the instructions of Sedgemoor District Council.

Senior Auction Valuer Katie Semmens said: “There was tremendous interest in this property and a great atmosphere in the sales room as a bidding war broke out.

“The house has a large garden providing lots of space for an extension and needs some improvement with many bidders plainly making assumptions about the potential for some form of residential development subject to the necessary consents.”

Still available is a rare opportunity to buy an historic Second World War pillbox in Minehead.

Britain’s largest independent regional land and property auctioneer Clive Emson Auctioneers holds eight rounds of auctions at five locations from Essex to Cornwall on consecutive days every six weeks, this time with a total of 133 lots.
