YOUR Bridgwater Mercury is proud to shout about success in Sedgemoor.

And now we are giving you the chance to celebrate the very best of the district, with the Pride of Sedgemoor Awards 2018.

The Mercury has teamed up with headline sponsor, Sedgemoor District Council, to showcase the very best of the district at a very special event.

You can now submit nominations in 11 categories, ranging from a Carer Award to Community Business of the Year.

Mercury editor, Paul Jones, said: “Sedgemoor is a thriving district and we are hugely proud to be hosting this event to celebrate just some of the successes of the past year.

“All of the categories are sure to be hotly contested and I can’t wait to start looking through nominations.”

A council spokesman said: “We are proud to be sponsors of the inaugural Pride of Sedgemoor Awards.

“Alongside the Bridgwater Mercury, we will be looking to celebrate the fantastic achievements of Sedgemoor residents.”

Bridgwater and Taunton College is sponsoring the Achievement Award and a spokesman said: “Bridgwater & Taunton College is proud to sponsor the Pride of Sedgemoor Achiever Award, recognising the outstanding work and achievements of individuals across our community.

“The belief that everyone has the ability to achieve sits at the heart of our college life.

“This belief shapes the teaching and learning we provide and is the guiding principle that drives our staff and students to be the best they can be, by challenging them to achieve more every day.

“This award gives people in our community an opportunity to receive the recognition they deserve and we are delighted to support and celebrate these achievements.

“We hope it will encourage and inspire others across our community to achieve things they didn’t realise they could: to try something new or challenging, to get involved in and to work towards something that will make a difference to themselves or those around them.”

Nominations will be open until April 27, 2018.

Finalists will then be invited to attend a special event at the Bridgwater & Albion Rugby Club on Wednesday, May 16.
