BRIDGWATER students have put their school on the map with their award-winning language skills.

Students at Robert Blake Science College won an incredibly competitive Language Perfect championships, competing with tens of thousands of students across Britain.

Year 8 student Liam Lovell-Gibbs, 13, carried off a Gold Medal - one of only a small percentage of students in Britain to do so.

To win the prize students have to learn and answer questions on Spanish, German, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Italian and other languages and score points for each question.

Robert Blake aims to aspire, achieve and celebrate with every student in the school and to bring learning alive.

Headteacher Deb Loveridge said: “Robert Blake aims to aspire, achieve and celebrate with every student in the school and to bring learning alive.

"Languages are really important and we are very proud of all our competitors and award winning students.”

A new lunchtime French club for Bridgwater students is proving extremely popular.

Robert Blake Science College students are meeting up to learn even more about French.

The high-achieving school has many students from across the world and places a huge emphasis on visiting overseas to enrich learning.

The club is one of dozens of extra-curricular activities across the school including sports, drama and music.

Miss Loveridge added: “We want learning to be fun and it is a delight to see so many students turning up to this French club.”
