AN OLYMPIC boxing coach visited students at a Bridgwater school as part of a drive to boost fitness and wellbeing.

Lee Pullen, who is currently on a career break from EDF Energy, took a break from training 2020 Olympic hopefuls to coach 80 students from Robert Blake Science College.

Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 pupils were treated to a boxing demonstration by Lee and Hinkley Point B’s station director, Peter Evans as well as the chance to don the gloves and have a one-to-one session with Lee.

Lee has coached a number of British boxing champions including Amir Khan, Audley Harrison, Nicola Adams and Anthony Joshua.

Peter said he hopes the coaching session will have inspired younger generations to get into exercise.

“Lee is a world class coach, and it was good he could share some of his experiences, techniques, hints and tips, on the importance fitness and wellbeing with the workforce of tomorrow.

“Let’s hope the day and his presence inspired the children to become potential Olympic champions of the future.”

The visit was made possible by Hinkley Point B power station and was organised as part of the school’s increased curriculum focus on fitness and wellbeing.

On the day, the students also had the chance to meet Mick Harrison, a British Army Physical Training Instructor, who put them through their paces with a selection of circuit training activities.

Claire Stokes, team leader for Robert Blake School, said: “It’s not every day the children get the chance to meet an Olympic coach, and on behalf of the school I would like to thank Lee, Peter and Mick for taking time out of their busy schedules to join us for the day.

“It was a truly enjoyable and engaging experience for both pupils and staff, and we have received some really good feedback from everyone who took part.”
