THE people of Bridgwater gathered twice over the weekend to pay their respects to Bridgwater's fallen.
Hundreds of people gathered in King Square over the course of the two events, firstly for Armistice Day on Saturday and then again on Sunday morning for Remembrance Day.
There was a two minute silence at 11am by the War Memorial where crowds gathered to pay tribute the town's soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War, Second World War and more recent conflicts.
On Armistice Day, Neil Baker from the Sea Cadets Band played The Last Post with Norman Allen from the Royal British Legion proceeding to read poems including the emotional 'I Have A Rendezvous With Death' by Alan Seegar and a moving letter written by a local soldier.
On Remembrance Sunday an even larger crowd gathered in King Square, where the laying of wreaths was led by the mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Graham Granter, Bridgwater and West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger and Sedgemoor District Council chairman Mike Cresswell.
This was followed by a parade across to St Mary's Church and a subsequent service.
Next year both the Armistice Day and Remembrance Day services fall on the same day, Sunday, November 11, 2018.
