THE Carnival Concerts have finished for another year, and again was a fantastic show and acts as a pre-cursor to the event itself which is now just a few short weeks away.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved, yet more proof of how much talent we have locally. Next up, the big day itself. The radio team will be out and about on the day as we are hosting a stage on the High Street with live music and much more besides, and then we’ll be on hand at some of the entertainment pods along the carnival route itself.

The other day I was having a conversation with two of the younger members of the team, both of whom were, initially, just staring at their phones.

I asked them how they would cope if they had to spend a week without a mobile phone, laptop, tablet, Netflix, Sky etc.

One of them was fine with it as they go camping but the other one looked horrified. You’d think I’d suggested chopping her legs off from the horrified expression.

If I was bringing children up now, I think I’d probably insist on having a gadget free day every so often, just to remind them that there is a lot to discover outside the confines of their bedrooms and social media presence. I think it would benefit them enormously.

Onto other radio bits and Jason Freeman is away this week so Malcolm Carr is sitting in for him weekdays from 2pm.

You can hear Dave Englefield on the breakfast show on 104.2 Sedgemoor FM weekdays from 6am-10am
