A MAN was rescued by firefighters after he became impaled on a fence after a crash in Nether Stowey. 

Three fire engines rushed to South Road in Nether Stowey at around 9.45pm last night (September 20) after reports of a crash involving a motorcycle. 

Firefighters from Nether Stowey, Bridgwater and Williton attended the incident.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the incident commander confirmed there had been a single vehicle crash and that one person had been found impaled on a fence. 

Crews worked with paramedics to remove the fence panels to free the man and get him on to a stretcher. 

The injured man was taken to hospital for further treatment.

A spokesman for the South West Ambulance Service Trust said: "We were called to the incident at 9.19pm on Wednesday, September 20.

"Two ambulances and a Rapid Response Vehicle were sent to the scene where a male casualty was treated for a possible fractured ankle and stomach injuries. He was taken to Southmead Hospital."
