Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League
Division 4
Lympsham & Belvedere 222-5 beat Wellington 27 by 195 runs

LYMPSHAM & Belvedere sealed their promotion to Division 3 of the Shrubbery Hotel League in emphatic fashion after thumping Wellington on Saturday.

Lympsham batted first and saw opener Brian Hosey (9) depart with the score on 33 - this brought the two Luff’s, Dave and Jack, together and they went on to play the match-defining partnership.

The pair added 114 for the second wicket before Dave fell for 41, but Jack went on to bring up his half-century before being dismissed for 69.

Samuel McCrea (34*) added valuable late runs to help his side to 222-5, which turned out to be more than enough as the bowlers ran riot.

Julian Froud got the ball rolling by removing Salter for a duck, and McCrea then tore through the top order on his way to 4-12 as Wellington slumped to 9-4.

There was no let-up from thereon in, as Paul Davis claimed 4-3 to help skittle Wellington for just 27.

THERE was cause for double celebration as the club’s 2nds also sealed the Division 8N title on Saturday.

Chris Butler’s unbeaten 59 helped Lympsham to 215-6, and they then limited Bridgwater Sports to 155-4 in response as the newly-merged club put the shine on an excellent first season.

Following the promotion joy for both Lympsham & Belvedere teams, they are now hoping to add a trophy to seal a memorable season.

They are in Minor Cup final action against Trull at Somerset CCC’s County Ground on Sunday, with the match beginning at 10am.

HUNTSPILL & District remain in Division 4 relegation danger after their four-wicket defeat at fellow strugglers Kilmington & Stourton on Saturday.

The visitors batted first and were grateful to valuable middle order contributions from Jake Randall (41) and Matt Counsell (25) as they fell to 146 all out.

Randall then took 2-30 as Kilmington made hard work of the reply, but the hosts got home with four wickets and just under two overs to spare.

Ned Harding claimed 4-17 as East Huntspill defeated Temple Cloud by 54 runs in Division 6N.

Matt Edwards (36) and Jon Picton (31) had earlier helped the hosts to 166 all out, a total they defended with a minimum of fuss as Harding delivered the crucial spell.

Burnham 2nds came up well short in their run chase against Leigh on Mendip.

In pursuit of the visitors’ 213-2, which was dominated by S. Phelps (88), Burnham lost their top four batsmen for single figure scores as the reply got off to a disastrous start.

In the end, they were grateful to G. Batt’s unbeaten 52 from number eight to help them to 127-8 as they lost by 86 runs.

Wedmore were also indebted to their tailenders in their defeat at Weston-super-Mare 3rds.

The visitors started badly with the bat after J. Burgess’ 3-23 had earlier restricted to Weston to 204-6, and it needed ninth-wicket pair A. Peters (46*) and Robert Burgess (22*) to take them to 145-8.

In Division 7N, Huntspill & District 2nds eased past Kilmington & Stourton 2nds by seven wickets.

Louis Wright took 3-8 in eight overs to help restrict the visitors to 111-8, which the hosts surpassed thanks to Craig Le Frere (34) and Daniel Tippetts (32*).

There was no such joy for Mark, who were thumped by 10 wickets against Wembdon Wyverns.

Mark skipper S. Tinklin impressed with 49, but only two other batsmen made it into double figures as Mark were restricted to 102-9.

They were then unable to make any breakthroughs with the ball, as Steve Pigden (35*) and Keith Futcher (41*) teamed up to help Wembdon past their target in just 17.1 overs.

Wedmore 2nds went further into minus points at the foot of Division 8N after failing to raise a side for their scheduled match with Weston-super-Mare 4ths.

Their final match of a tough season is against the same opponents on Saturday.

EAST Huntspill face a potential West Somerset League Division 4 title-decider on Saturday after seeing off West Monkton last weekend.

Andrew Prowse (75) and Louis Holmes (65) were the chief contributors to East Huntspill’s 218-7, which the home side never looked like overcoming.

Prowse put the shine on an excellent all-round display by claiming 3-38, while Kevin Watts chipped in with 3-27 as West Monkton were bowled out for 146.

The victory keeps East Huntspill in second, one point behind leaders Stoke Saints ahead of Saturday’s clash between the two sides.

East Huntspill also have a game in hand - they have three games still to play this season.
