FA Cup preliminary round
Bridgwater Town 1, Brislington 0

STEVE Holland scored the only goal as Bridgwater Town halted their losing run - and gained revenge over Brislington for defeat seven days before - to progress to the FA Cup first qualifying round.

Following last Saturday's home loss to the same opponents, and a midweek reverse at Street, the Robins returned to the smart passing and use of pace that had served them well previously.

After an early scare which saw the visitors hit the post from a corner, Town took the lead on nine minutes, as midfielder Holland found himself in all kinds of space and he sent an overhead lob over goalkeeper Chris Blammon and into the net.

Kyle Paine and Dave Pearse were working well together up front for the hosts, and could have added to the lead, only for Pearse to shoot over and Paine to set up Jack Jenkins to strike - again over the bar.

Paine also clipped the left-hand post with an effort from a wide angle, but it remained 1-0 at the break.

The Robins lost their way for a spell in the second half, and the away side could have profited as Jason Hughes headed wide and Aaron Cornwall sent a free-kick straight at keeper Jake Viney.

The pendulum swung back towards the hosts, and Holland's cross to Paine just bobbled enough to put the striker off, before Callum Ham's ball in was just too far ahead of the onrushing Syd Camper.

Viney saved well to deny Danny Hunt, but despite Brislington throwing their keeper into the mix at the death, there was to be no equaliser, and Bridgwater are in tomorrow's Cup draw.

Bridgwater: Viney, C. White, Robinson, Duffy, J.White, Begg, Holland (Ham 75), Jenkins, Paine (Camper 75), Pearse (Connick 89), Llewellyn.
