AN enterprising mum has taken her passion for upcycling furniture to a new level - and opened her own shop.

The newly-opened Court Street Kids, in Court Street, sells new, old and upcycled furniture specifically for children.

It is the brainchild of Sasha Lithgow, who said she was inspired to start the business after hunting around for furniture for her daughter.

“I have always really enjoyed finding unique pieces of furniture for my daughter’s bedroom,”she said.

“I always tend to go for something a bit different that captures my interest.

“I thought it would be nice to start a little business and so far the response I have got has been really positive.

“One of the things I noticed was that children’s bedrooms need to change quite often because as they grow their needs change as they get older.”

The mother of one said she was inspired to start the business after having her daughter and after hunting for furniture herself, noticed a gap in the market for pre-made children’s items.

“I have always been a fan of upcycling furniture and in the shop I sell pieces that I upcycle myself,” she said.

“I have a workshop upstairs and have had some great feedback on my pieces from customers.

“We have been open for about three weeks now and all of the customers we have had in through the door have been really positive about the store.

“Trade is going well. We have had some customers who have asked us to source some items of furniture for them and I have really enjoyed looking around at different auctions to find them the thing they are looking for.”

And she said Bridgwater was the perfect place for her new venture.

“Since I set up the store, I have met so many different people in Bridgwater who I never expected to meet, it is such a diverse place and its great to see people from all different walks of life come into the store and see what we have to offer,” Sasha added.

“There is not another store in Bridgwater like ours as we sell pre-made, one-of-a-kind pieces, which I feel puts us a step above other businesses who sell flatpack furniture.

“We have had a successful few weeks and I hope this positive trend continues.”
