A BRIDGWATER man completed a demanding cycling challenge in memory of his sister.

Oli Felstead cycled solo from John O'Groats to Lands End in just seven days to pay tribute to his sister, Heidi Hopley who tragically died in October 2016 from alcohol poisoning.

The determined cyclist raised more than £4,000 by taking on the 920 mile challenge which he donated to Brainwave, a charity that gives support to children with disabilities.

Miss Hopley was a support worker for Brainwave and Mr Felstead said it is a cause that is close to his heart.

"Cycling 920 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End in 7 days unsupported was a fantastic experience that challenged me both physically and mentally" he said.

"I experienced all the elements: heavy-winds, torrential rain and baking hot sunshine.

"There was also plenty of pain and euphoria, however, the pain was worth it as I am delighted to have raised over £4,000 for Brainwave, an amazing charity that helps children with disabilities achieve greater independence.

"My late sister, Heidi, worked for Brainwave for over 20 years so it is a charity close to my heart and I would like to thank everyone who generously sponsored me."

Alexis Hawkes, fundraising administrator at Brainwave in Bridgwater said the charity was thrilled to receive the donation.

“Brainwave are so thankful to Oli and all his sponsors who raised this fantastic sum.

"It’s supporters like Oli who enable us to make a difference to children with disabilities and additional needs" she said.

" We believe in a world where every child reaches their full potential.

" Heidi was a much loved member of staff at the centre and she made such a difference to numerous children who have passed through the doors of the charity.”
