COMMUNITY groups across Sedgemoor will benefit from more than £65,000 of grant funding, thanks to awards given out by Sedgemoor District Council

Bridgwater youngster, Bertie Kelly, the under 11’s National Table Tennis Champion, who represented England at the European Championships in August will recieve a £500 grant which will contribute to his travel, training and entry to the competitions in Cardiff, Sussex and Birmingham.

£1120 was awarded to North Newton Parochial Church Council, to help towards redecorating the hall, sanding and sealing the floor.

This will complete the halls refurbishment, benefiting 700 people in the surrounding community.

Somerset Art Works have been awarded £1000 towards 3 free, one day workshop sessions with primary schools in Sedgemoor.

They will also be providing free drop-in film screenings at Shapwick National Nature Reserves during Arts Week 2017.

£597 has been awarded to Somerset Cricket Board, to help fund free monthly disability sessions at Bridgwater College.

The sessions will be open for both juniors and adults.

The Somerset Coast YMCA will be awarded £2500 towards the installation of a new CCTV camera.

The camera will be linked up to the control centre at Sedgemoor and monitored 24 hours a day.

BOSHed voluntary group will see £2500.

The Shed was created in Burnham-on-Sea for individuals to develop and learn new skills, whilst engaging in individual and community projects.

The Shed aims at providing a service for mental health to men, the funding will go towards heating and a new portable office.

£500 was also awarded to St Francis Holiday Club. The club runs for 6-12 year olds, two days a week for four weeks with crafts, games, quizzes and subsidised family day trips out.

Hamish Clarke will be on his way to the Under 18’s British Eventing Championships in Yorkshire after the council gave him a £500 boost.

The grant will cover his entry fees, training, travel and horse care at the competition.

Bridgwater College have been awarded £40,000 towards a new shock pad, underneath the existing Astro-Turf. This will meet the requirements of the Rugby Football Union for full contact Rugby.

Bridgwater Bowling Club was awarded £12,544 to renovate the pathway surrounding the bowling green.

Last but not least, Ashcott Coronation Playing fields will receive £4,041.30.

The grant will go towards improving access to the playing fields, demolishing the old pavilion building and improve the car parking facilities by resurfacing the area.
