A COMMUNITY cafe has received a donation in order to build a permanent structure.

The Asda Foundation has donated £6,360 to Westfield Street Cafe, based at the United Reform Church, West Street.

The money will be used by the cafe, which is currently a mobile catering unit based outside the church, to build a permanent structure inside the church.

The temporary cafe has been in place since 2011.

Judi Adcock, of Westfield Street Café, said: “We’re really grateful for this generous donation. It’s great to see Asda supporting the community and local people who benefit from the cafe.

"We’re looking forward to seeing improvements to the kitchen with the help of this funding."

The money will also be used to update the cooking area and to help provide community support.

The cafe's application to the Asda Foundation was supported by staff from the store at East Quay.

The foundation was set up in 1988 to support local community ventures.

Julie Ward, Asda Foundation manager, said: “We see the foundation as one of the many ways to give something back to the communities that support us.

"That’s why we lend a hand to the wide range of good causes with which our colleagues are involved, sharing their passion and helping to make a difference through a variety of projects across the UK.

“Supporting smaller, local applications such as Westfield Street Cafe is really important to us – and we hope it will make a real difference within the community in Bridgwater.”
