SHOPPERS in Bridgwater were entertained recently by a charity Judo Display in Blake Gardens and Angel Place.
Kyo Kai Judo Club, based in Eastover Youth Centre, arranged this special fundraising event to raise funds for the two charities which saved the life of their Judo Instructor, John MacIntyre.
John has been running a Judo Club in Bridgwater for over 25 years. He suffered a heart attack in May 2016 and received fantastic support from both the ambulance service and the cardiac team at Musgrove Park Hospital.
The club decided to run a fundraising display, as a gesture of thanks to both services.
Mr MacIntyre said: "The children and young people in the club really enjoyed the opportunity to demonstrate judo techniques to passing shoppers who generously donated their support.
"The event raised a total of nearly £2,000 which will be split equally between the two charities at special presentations in the next few weeks.
"A special thank you to club members’ families, local shoppers and Somerset Community Foundation, who donated so generously and made the event a great success."
