A MYSTERIOUS new entertainment venue being dubbed as ‘Bournemouth’s Darkest Attraction’ will finally open its doors to the public next month.

The MacGuffin Project is based on the idea of an ‘escape room’ - a new craze which sees people trying to escape from a locked room - but with a very unique twist.

So far very little is known about the new attraction, which will be located in the former Dusk till Dawn nightclub in Old Christchurch Road, and that’s the way co-founders Gareth Quinlan and Claire Timbrell want to keep it.

Speaking to the Echo Ms Timbrell explained that a major part of the attraction is the mystery.

“We want the public to be surprised and amazed during during their first visit to us. Plus all the mystery kind of adds to the atmosphere of the attraction,” she added.

Teams are thrust into a mysterious derelict 19th century Victorian carnival and must work together through an interactive and fully themed steampunk inspired environment uncovering mysteries and solving challenges together.

Visitors will interact with machines, communicate with lost souls and piece together the past as they race against time to complete their missions.

The project faced delays after the first venue in Yelverton Road fell through last year. But now the team is carefully adding the final touches ahead of the grand opening on Saturday, May 6.

Ms Timbrell, CEO and co-founder said: “There’s nothing standard about this attraction. Having secured the backing of five angel investors in 2016, we have been given the perfect platform to bring The MacGuffin Project to life.”

The team has worked alongside London-based technology and arts company Seeper.com to help build the attraction.

Co-founder and head of creative Gareth Quinlan, said: “We’re so close to opening the doors and letting everyone into the exciting world of MacGuffin.

“Two years in the making, it has been an amazing journey working with an exceptionally talented team and we can’t wait to share the results.”

Ahead of the official launch, The MacGuffin Project is running a regional search for ‘VIP workshop testers’ to be part of the first 10 groups to experience the attraction and provide feedback. Those interested should go to themacguffinproject.com/VIPtesters to apply.
