A MCDONALD'S store in Bridgwater could be getting a new fast forward drive thru lane after plans were submitted to 'freshen up' the store.

The fast food giant is seeking planning permission from Sedgemoor District Council to make alterations to the outside of the building including the installation of a 'folded roof' and the building of an extension to form a third drive-thru booth at their store at the Gallagher Retail Park at The Clink.

A spokesman for McDonald's said: "The McDonald’s concept has captured the imagination of the public with its vast choice of food, and is now considering the aesthetics of the buildings where it is sold, in an attempt to “freshen-up” the exterior façades of the building.

"This application relates to the up-to-date concept with this new 'Folded Roof' which introduces timber and khaki cladding to the roof, with a small 13.5 sqm extension and a fast forward lane, to allow two customers to collect their order at different booths.

"The extension will facilitate a new drive thru booth which will provide a second collection point.

"The new fast forward booth will allow for a customer to pull forward to a third booth, if there is a small delay in the order, rather than driving through to the grill bays.

"This allows the traffic flow to be retained through the drive thru lane.

"Initial studies have found that the inclusion of a fast forward booth reduces the need for grill bays by 85 per cent which has allowed for the reduction in this provision."

Residents will have until April 14 to comment on the application.
