IT is the time of year to rid yourself of some bad habits for 40 days.

Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, the day after Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) and is the run up to Easter.

People give up indulgent treats for 40 days before Easter Sunday, which celebrates Jesus' resurrection.

It is a time for prayer and repentance, and remembers the sacrifices that Jesus made while he fasted in the desert for 40 days and was tempted by the Devil – a story known as the Temptation of Christ.

Lent culminates with the Holy Week, including Good Friday – which commemorates the Jesus’ crucifixion, and Holy Saturday – which marks the day that Jesus’ body lay in the tomb.

So are you going to be giving up anything for Lent?

Do you eat too much chocolate and cake? Drink too much alcohol? Let us know what you'll be going without for the next 40 days.
