IN this week's column Sedgemoor FM's DJ Dave Englefield ponders 'what if things people believed in the past turned out to be true?'

Have you ever stopped and wondered what life would be like if some of the things people believed in the past were actually true?

For example, how different would our lives be if the world turned out to be flat? Would the oceans simply fall off the ends creating a waterfall to the moon?

That would look pretty spectacular but you wouldn’t want to stand on the edge to look over would you. People also believed, at one stage, that if you travelled faster than 20 mph you wouldn’t be able to breathe and would, therefore, die.

I guess it would prevent drivers from speeding anywhere but on the flipside would planes be able to fly? And just how long would it take to drive to somewhere like London? Any others you can think of?

On to a little bit of radio news for you, and Jason has now started his new weekday show between 2 and 4pm, and Charlie is all set to return to the line up from the beginning of March with a brand new show.

And finally, last week saw the UK Pun championships take place as part of the Leicester Comedy Festival.

At the time of writing the winning pun hadn’t been announced although if I was a betting man, and I’m not, my money would be on Tim Vine to be the winner again. I have come across some funny puns and thought I’d leave you this week with one. Why don’t some couples go the gym? Because some relationships don’t work out.

You can hear Dave Englefield on the Breakfast Show on 104.2 Sedgemoor FM, weekdays from 6am
