A FUNDRAISING night to support a beloved Bridgwater woman battling cancer has raised more than £3,500.

Glynis Johns, known as Guinness, has been fighting cancer since 2012 after being diagnosed. She has since received news that her cancer is terminal.

Her friends and family hosted the charity night in order to ease Miss Johns' financial worries for her family.

Yvette Hague, a close friend, said: "Glynis is a passionate Irish woman wanting only the best for her beautiful three children.

"After losing her house due to illness and not being able to work, we would like to give Glynis some peace of financial worry and to help ease the burden knowing that her family will have some support thereafter."

The charity event was held on Friday, January 20, at Bridgwater Rugby Club, and Mrs Hague said it was a great success.

"All in all we raised £3,572, and we couldn't have done it without the amazing support from local businesses and the community, and Glynnis was very emotional when we told her how much was raised," she said.

Glynis said: "I want to thank each and everyone of the people who donated. Never for one moment did I think we would raise that amount.

"I am proud of my family and friends for what they have achieved in such a short space of time."

"I know I may not be here for a long time but I am in awe of them.

"They have showed me love and friendship that I have never experienced in my life and I cannot thank them enough."

She also wanted to thank the people of Bridgwater for their generosity and kindness.

"When I first moved here I just saw it as a place to live because I landed a job here," Glynis said.

"But I have been totally blown away by the kindness and generosity of the people of Bridgwater.

"It is not just another town it is a big hearted community which has not only restored my faith in humanity but made me see the world in a different light."
