STOGURSEY will be getting a new jobs hub to help maximise the opportunities offered by Hinkley C.

The aim of the new hub is to ensure that people in the Quantock Vale area are able to access support towards finding work.

Valued volunteers have offered their time to provide the community-led service.

The Stogursey venture, called The Well, is opening in The Church Rooms, in the village on Wednesday, October 19 and will run on a fortnightly basis on a Wednesday morning.

Staff will help with online job applications, polishing interview skills, provide advice in writing or updating CVs for those who are thinking about moving jobs, gain work or those who have never had a CV.

Applicants can also use the available computers or chat about the possibilities of starting their own business. There will also be the opportunity to be referred to specialist organisations providing opportunities for training, benefit problems and debt assistance.

The hub will be working in partnership with West Somerset Advice Service to assist the Quantock Vale community with access to free confidential support on a wide range of information and advice including: -

• financial advice

• housing

• benefits

• home & care

• consumer issues

• pensions

• energy & bills.

The hub aims to create a relaxed, informal atmosphere where people can get the information they need - plus cuppa and a chat.

Cllr Sue Goss, ward member for Quantock Vale area, said: “This will be an invaluable asset to local residents seeking to find employment both at Hinkley and elsewhere. I am proud to be associated with this project and really pleased that after my initial request for its existence that this has now come to fruition.”

Cllr Karen Mills, Lead Member for Economic Regeneration and Tourism, said: “In light of the recent Hinkley Point C decision this is perfect timing; it is crucial that local people have the opportunity to gain support towards the world of work and information via the West Somerset Advice Service.

“The evidence is already apparent with the success of the existing West Somerset Community Employment Hubs.

"I have been overwhelmed by the valued volunteers who give their time and incredibly impressed with the positivity from the clients who attend. The Stogursey hub will be a real asset to the Quantock Vale area.”
