GRASS roots cricket is alive and well all over Somerset and Cannington Village Cricket Club is celebrating its new state-of-the-art sight screens.

Thanks to the forward planning of Cannington College management, kindly assisted by generous support from EDF’s community development fund, and also Rowan Dartington of Weston-super-Mare a pair of `state-of-the-art’ sight-screens have been added and a new wicket laid at the College’s cricket ground on the Hinkley Point road out of the village.

John Ogle, who plays for the Bridgwater Doctors Cricket Club that play at the ground, welcomed the new sight-screens.

"It just shows that cricket in Cannington is flourishing and our former dilapidated sight-screens have been replaced with these top quality ones, it is good news for everybody involved in the Cannington cricket community," Mr Ogle said.

"There is a good chance now Hinkley has got the green light, there will be more players in the area and we may get more teams playing here," he added.
