BRIDGWATER'S toughest man Mark Godbeer will get the chance to test his mettle against the world's best fighters after signing with UFC.

The 32-year-old Bridgwater native hit the headlines last year after becoming British Association of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight Champion by beating Paul Taylor.

Mark, who stands at 6ft 4in and weighs 245lbs, will be on the same roster as stars of The Octagon like Connor McGregor and Ronda Rousey in what is regarded as the world's toughest fighting championship.

In a statement on his Facebook page Mark wrote: "I've been overwhelmed by the support I have been receiving.

"It still hasn't sunk in yet and I doubt I will have time to respond to all the messages I have received but I truly thank you all.

"I would like to thank all my supporters who have been with me through good and bad, I am really grateful.

"I accept the challenge and know I have a tough ride ahead of me but I can honestly say the time is 100 per cent right, financially, mentally and personally.

"I have been through a lot to get here and I don't plan on leaving anytime soon."

Mark 'The Hand Of' Godbeer, has signed a four-fight deal with the leading MMA promotion.

He does not have a fight officially lined up yet, but there are rumours he will debut in Belfast in November.

Mark started his training with Arthur Meek eight years ago, as well as working at All or Nothing kickboxing and MMA gym in Bridgwater.

His fighting style involves a mix of boxing as well jiu-jitsu and holds an impressive 11-2 record in the BAMMA division.
