I AM turning into a grumpy old man as I get older, it’ll probably happen to you when, like me, you get to 26. One of the things that gets under my skin a lot these days is a lack of courtesy between people. At what point did the words please and thank you vanish from the English language? Did I miss a memo somewhere along the way? I’m not saying for one second that we have all turned into a bunch of ignorant, rude human beings but there has been a growing number of occasions where I’ve held a door open for someone or I’ve stepped to one side to let them move through a busy shopping aisle and not even had an acknowledgement. I really hope this isn’t an indication of what lies ahead for our children and their children. A please or thank you costs nothing to say but can make all the difference.

Onto some radio news for you and Mark Painter is off for a few days this week, meaning we get the chance to welcome Robyn Humphreys to the team. Robyn is home from university at present and enjoying a return to radio. Also, on Friday this week (2nd Sept) my special guest on the show will be Chris de Burgh. One not to be missed

Finally, the answer to last week’s teaser: There was once a make of car called “Bridgwater”. Do you reckon that’s true? Or did I make it up? I was telling the truth and the car was partially made locally too although it is thought that there are no surviving models. This week’s teaser is this, in which year was the siege of Bridgwater? No cheating, I’ll give you the answer in next week’s column. Have a great week.
