A MAN was hauled out of a river in Bridgwater after jumping in from a bridge in the early hours of the morning.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were all called to the incident, which happened at Fore Street Bridge at around 2am this morning.

He was then dragged out of the mud by firefighters.

He was not seriously injured in the incident, and has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Police helicopters were also called in to assist during the incident.

“As he tried to get out of the water he got stuck in the mud. He was assisted out of the water by the fire service.
