IF you've ever thought you'd like to have a go at learning a new carnival skill the organisers of Bridgwater Carnival might have just the thing for you.

Bridgwater Carnival is organising a series of carnival 'taster' workshops at Bridgwater College where anyone, involved in the carnival or not, can have a go at developing new skills.

Each workshop will be led by college tutors or experienced carnivalites who will pass on both their knowledge and expertise.

In addition Clary Salandy will be on-hand to give advice. Clary designs and constructs amazing costumes for both Luton International and Notting Hill carnivals and will be passing on her skills using skills and techniques that will be new to many.

The workshops will take place over the weekend from September 2-4 and will include full and half day sessions, depending on the skill selected, but you can pick and choose as many as you like.

There is no charge for taking part, but places will be limited so those interested are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.

Workshops available include: 'Caribbean' costumes and backpacks, headdresses and headwear, costume design, stage make-up, stage design, set painting, welding, choreography and dance, lighting, sound and even Samba drumming!

To book your place contact Chris Hocking by ringing 01278 428220 or email chris@bridgwatercarnival.org.uk.

This year's carnival takes place on Saturday, November 5th, with the grand firework display the night before and the carnival concerts going on between October 3-15.
