The family left homeless after a fire gutted their house in Highbridge have spoken out, saying they are 'touched' by the community's support.

Rosie Clements, her husband Paul, and their three children, Lily-Rose, Shae and Ruby, lost their home, whippet dog and bearded dragon in the blaze in Burnham Road on July 27.

Local holiday park, Haven, in Burnham-on-Sea, have stepped in and given the family temporary accommodation.

Rosie, a teacher at Churchfield Primary School, said: "I am shell shocked.

"We are so touched by everybody's support.

"My priority is to keep things as normal as possible for the children.

"Haven have kindly given us accommodation until Monday and all sorts of people have donated clothes and other items, as we only had what we were standing in.

"We are part of a great community and it has made a very difficult time, especially the loss of all our pets, so much easier to bear."

Bridgwater Mercury:

The campaign, Help For Rosie Clements, has been set up by kind residents to offer money and donations.

Items can be dropped off at 16 Caxton Road and 20 West Avenue, Highbridge.

The fire service were called just before 2:50pm on July 27 in Burnham Road, to reports of flames being seen from an upstairs window and a large volume of smoke.

The fire was spreading to a neighbouring house, and was not brought under control until 4:58pm by the 16 firefighters.

The fire was confirmed as completely extinguished at 12:55am this morning, but there was 100 per cent damage to the home.

There is also a crowd funding page which can be found here, and local businesses are being encouraged to get in touch on the Facebook page to offer anything they can.
