A SOMERSET couple have been sentenced for keeping their maid falsely imprisoned at their home in an ordeal spanning three days.

Zekri Gris, 56, was jailed for three years at Bristol Crown Court last month after admitting one charge of false imprisonment.

His 35-year-old wife Dina Matiass, from Hanham, was given a 12-month suspended sentence earlier today (Monday, June 20) after admitting the same charge.

The victim was tied up at the couple’s home in Ham Lane, Bishop Sutton, in June 2015 over the course of three days, before she managed to escape and raise the alarm.

Investigating officer Det Con Louise Macpherson said: “This was a terrifying and humiliating experience for the victim in which she feared for her life.

“During the course of our inquiry we discovered the couple had filmed parts of the incident on a mobile phone, which helped us to compile a compelling case and resulted in both defendants admitting a charge of false imprisonment.

“They tried to claim the incident was in response to a significant amount of money stolen from them, but we’ve never found any evidence of this money being taken.

“I hope these convictions will help the victim move on with her life and I’d like to thank her for the courage she’s shown throughout this investigation.”
