THE Burnham and Highbridge Band will have a day to remember later this month when they play the world famous Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts.

The iconic main stage, with an audience capacity of over 100,000 people, is one of the most famous music venues in the world.

The Burnham and Highbridge band will open the stage on the Sunday of the festival, and will be followed on the day by the likes of Jeff Lynne’s ELO, Ellie Goulding and Coldplay.

The band’s Facebook page read: “No, it's not April Fools Day! The Band have been asked by Michael Eavis to play at this year's festival on the prestigious Pyramid Stage.

“We are scheduled to be playing from 10:30am on Sunday 26th June.”

The band regularly plays venues such as The Princess Theatre in Burnham-On-Sea, and the Bandstand in Grove Park, Weston-Super-Mare, so this concert will be a huge step up for the brass band.

After celebrating its 70th anniversary last year, this performance will surely be the biggest of its long history.

Originally called the Burnham and Highbridge Services Band when it was first formed at the end of hostilities in Europe, the band was soon recognised as the official Town band, making its first public performance a year later.

The Pyramid Stage opening slot on the Sunday has previously featured acts like The Burtle Silver band, The English National Ballet, and the Yeovil Town Band.

This year’s festival, which takes place between June 22 and June 26, features an eclectic range of acts from across the world.

Muse, Adele, and Coldplay headline the event, alongside acts like Art Garfunkel, Earth, Wind and Fire, Underworld, ZZ Top, and even Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Tickets to the festival are sold out, after they were snapped up within minutes of going on sale in October.
