A GARDEN wall was flattened in a hit-and-run incident in Bridgwater.

Police have now launched an investigation into the incident, with the wall belonging to an 89-year-old woman who owns the property.

Police received reports that at around 12.30am on Sunday morning, a dark blue BMW, possibly an X-reg, was in collision with the boundary wall of a property on Mount Street.

After hitting the wall, the driver did not leave his details with the victim or report the crash to the police.

The number plate of the car came off in the crash, and it is believed there was a driver and one passenger.

It is thought that the registration plate had a Union Jack emblem on it.

The driver has been described as white, aged around 18-20, five foot 10 inches tall, with mousey brown or ginger hair.

A neighbour who lives on the road said she heard a 'massive bang' around 12:30am.

The lady, who did not wish to be named, said: "I was awake feeding the baby at about half past 12 and I heard a massive bang.

"I looked out of the window and a a dark coloured car- either black or dark blue- in a saloon style was turning in the road and then sped off.

"It was so quick I didn't have chance to get the number plate unfortunately.

"The damage to the car must be at the back so we're hoping someone sees something or has any information."

Another neighboour, who lives next to the property, said the house 'shook'.

She said: "There was a loud noise and the house shook.

"I just hope it can be sorted."

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who has any information on the incident to contact them on 101 and ask for Inspector Bob Muckett and quote log number 40 of April 23.
