Cannington's bypass has finally opened bringing relief to the villagers who have had to put up with lorries rumbling through the streets.
Now heavy traffic bound for Hinkley can take the new road from the roundabout at the Nether Stowey side of the village.
The opening of the bypass involved a ribbon cutting ceremony performed by Nigel Cann (pictured left) of Hinkley Point C and Colin Allen, chairman of Cannington Parish Council.
Invited guests included representatives from Cannington Parish Council, Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset County Council, Bridgwater College, EDF Energy and Aggregate Industries. The buses were supplied by Crosville which has joined First to form Somerset Passenger Solutions, EDF Energy’s preferred bidder to provide a park and ride service to Hinkley Point C power station. A vintage double-decker took guests along the route of the bypass accompanied by a modern park and ride vehicle.
