The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service issued this statement about an incident that happened yesterday at 5.30pm: "A fire engine from Cheddar was requested to assist Ambulance with a casualty who had fallen down a cliff face in the gorge.
"On arrival the crew requested the attendance of a specialist rescue team from Bridgwater along with another fire engine from Shepton Mallet for extra safety working at height equipment.
"On further investigation it was discovered that there were two people who were believed to have fallen approximately 50 foot onto a ledge on a cliff face. Crews liaised with Ambulance to formulate a plan to rescue the casualties.
"One of the casualties was suffering from possible pelvic injuries and they were rescued from the cliff face by a search and rescue helicopter, they were then conveyed to hospital. The other person was assisted from the cliff face by the fire service uninjured."
