A BRIDGWATER Town councillor has spoken of his outrage at the fly tipping problem in the town.

Councillor Adrian Moore, of Hamp Ward, believes it is a problem that needs to be sorted, and that Hamp Brook Way is one of the worst roads affected.

"The fly tipping in Hamp Brook Way is dreadful and atrocious.

"I am aware that Sedgemoor District Council are trying to sort it but I'm still not happy because it's taking too long.

"It needs to be dealt with as and when it happens and the people dumping things need to be caught.

"It's awful at the moment because people are leaving food in bags and it's rotting and smelling thanks to the Indian summer we're having.

"The culprits need to be caught and fined- I'm really annoyed with the way Bridgwater is being treated at the moment."

One resident of Hamp Brook Way, who did not wish to be named, said: "Recently we reported eight bags of waste that were just dumped to the council.

"It's an absolute disgrace.

"The people who dumped it stupidly left an application form in one of the bags so now we know who the culprits are."

Another home owner on the street said: "They are taking the mick to be honest.

"We had quite a few bags put up against our gateway and I've seen rubbish dumped near the school.

"I don't know what the council are doing and it's getting very annoying.

"It's only been a problem in the last couple of months."

Sedgemoor District Council are aware of the problems with fly tipping in Hamp Brook Way.

A spokesman said: "Sedgemoor District Council have received a report of fly tipping in the Hamp Brook Way area and it is currently under investigation with our enforcement officer.

"Fly tipping is a blight on the environment, can be a health and safety hazard and is costly for the council to remove.

"We encourage residents to report fly tips to Sedgemoor District Council by calling 01278 435435, by visiting our reception or via our website www.sedgemoor.gov.uk. Sedgemoor District Council works hard to investigate fly tippers and prosecutes where appropriate."
