BANKING staff from Lloyds branches across Somerset are joining forces in a bid to raise more than £300,000 for BBC Children in Need, their chosen Charity of the Year Partnership.

Along with Lloyds colleagues from across the country, they will cycle the equivalent of more than twice around the world in just 24 hours as part of the bank’s Pedal for Pudsey fundraising initiatives.

Pedal for Pudsey aims to raise funds to ensure that children and young people in the UK can have a safe, happy and secure childhood and have the opportunity to reach their potential.

On Thursday and Friday, October 8 and 9, 12 members of staff from branches in Somerset and Dorset will be riding static bikes non-stop from 11am for 24 hours at the Yeovil branch.

They will collectively contribute to - 200 teams; 1,200 participants; 127 locations; almost 1.8million calories burnt; more than 50,000 miles pedalled; a £300,000 fundraising target.

To help keep the team motivated and giving their all, the team members will be cycling in pairs throughout the event and have set a fundraising target of £3,000.

Camilla Witton, customer manager for the Lloyds Bank Somerset and Dorset group said: “Lloyds Somerset and Dorset colleagues have always been huge supporters of the bank’s Charity of the Year raising large amounts of money for good causes by taking on incredible challenges.

"We’re proud that our principal partnership with BBC Children in Need will help make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children throughout the UK.

"Colleagues across the business are getting involved, and we have already raised more than £3million for this year’s appeal."
