A TALENTED Bridgwater boy has set his heart on competing in the next go-karting season in 2016.

Sylvain Vessier, 12, who is currently going through diagnosis of Asperger's, is passionate about the sport, despite thinking he may never be able to drive with his condition.

Sylvain practices at Clay Pigeon Raceway in Dorchester where fellow Somerset driver Jenson Button began his career.

He is currently hoping to join the club, although he has no kart of his own at the moment.

"Go-karting is a very costly sport," said mum Lianne Vessier.

"Clay Pigeon Raceway lets Sylvain use their karts and equipment, but it costs £250 for half a day.

"In the long run it would be cheaper to buy him his own kart, but brand new they cost £6,000 and £3,000 second-hand and we can't afford that.

"He's so passionate about his sport that we just want to get behind him and get him out there.

Sylvain's family is now hoping to raise money to buy a go-kart.

"Each season to be ready for racing can cost as much as £10,000," added Lianne.

"Sponsorship and fundraising are the best ways to continue this sport.

"We are asking people to support and sponsor Sylvain, as well as companies to hold events such as coffee mornings."

"It is tax exempt and great advertising because company logos can be put on the go karts and on kit.

"My husband is also a photographer so can take photos for companies involved."
