SINCE launching in March 2014 over 9,000 customers have successfully used the ‘phone and pay’ system for parking in Sedgemoor District Council car parks, with over 1,000 customers using the system in July alone.

Many of these customers now use the service on a regular basis.

The system enables customers to pay using their mobile phone, removing the need to carry cash. There are also options to receive a reminder text or to top-up your payment if your stay is longer than expected saving you precious time returning to your car and then scrambling for change. Once registered, customers can use this facility in any ‘pay and display’ public car or on-street parking bay in Somerset, from Cheddar to Chard, Wincanton to Watchet.

Sedgemoor’s thousandth customer in July, Mr Yeo of Bridgwater, is a regular user of the phone and pay system. Mr Yeo said “I find Phone and Pay convenient because there is no need to find the exact amount of change”.

Full details about the scheme are on the side of each ticket machine or available at www.phoneandpay.co.uk.

Annual and quarterly season tickets are other cash-free options for paying for parking in Sedgemoor’s car parks. These are particularly useful for people who park in car parks regularly during the working week.
