Fathers 4 Justice to target Bridgwater again?

"MAJOR action" is soon going to be carried out by a fathers' protest group who have specifically named Bridgwater on a list of would-be targets.

Fathers 4 Justice warns on its website the town's buildings - together with Taunton and North Somerset's - could be struck shortly.

The campaigning dads are warning the town to expect action over the next few months as the organisation gears up to raise awareness of its message.

Spokesman Richard Adams gave clues as to what kind of protest the public could expect.

"There would be no obstructing of roads or anything like that, the plans we have got for the area are for buildings and landmarks and obviously there are some significant ones in that area," he said.

"There are some important Government and municipal structures and some important church buildings.

"I can't go into that much detail but we have actually a growing support based in the South-West and the Bridgwater area."

The group says it carries out its actions to raise the awareness of the plight of some fathers denied access to their children.

New protests will apparently be carried out in a humorous style, but will not put any structures or members of the public at risk.

Back in December 2005, the group were foiled in a plan to scale the town's Willow Man landmark and drape it with campaign flags, after the Mercury tipped off police, and officers manned a barricade.

"It was brought to our attention during this action exactly how fragile the Willow Man is, we are not in the business of destroying physical and cultural landmarks - but we could use this site for future non-violent direct action," Richard said.

"We have got some really strong activists that want to lead the young blood, expect some activity in the Bristol to Taunton area in the next few months - some major action.

"It could happen anywhere between those two towns."
