A 17-YEAR-OLD man was arrested in Bridgwater yesterday after the police carried out a warrant at an address in the Newtown area.

Police swooped on the property at 10am with police dog Buddy to carry out a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant.

Officers from the Bridgwater Team seized cannabis and arrested a 17 year-old man on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply a class B drug.

Buddy and the team searched the property following information from the public about suspected drug-dealing at the address.

Buddy located the suspected cannabis and officers seized drugs, phones and a laptop as part of the investigation.

The 17 year-old was taken to Bridgwater custody pending further investigation.

PCSOs from the local Beat Team carried our reassurance patrols, delivering letters to local residents explaining what the police activity had entailed.

PC Richard Smith from the Bridgwater Town Centre Team said: “We received information from the community about drug-dealing in the area.

"I hope our activities yesterday reassure local residents that we do listen and we do take action.

“We won’t tolerate drug dealing and the anti-social behaviour that often accompanies it. It has a negative impact on the quality of life for the wider community.

"We have had lots of positive feedback from the public praising us for the action we took yesterday.”
