EVER wanted to meet an eight-stone tortoise?

You’ll have the chance to meet “eight stone Eric” at Secret World Wildlife Rescue’s open weekend on July 25-26.

Eric, who is in fact a sulcata, is one of many tortoises both exotic and European who you can meet over the “Spines and Shells” weekend.

Sue Weaver, chairman of the South-West chapter of the British Chelonia Group said: “Eric is a bit of a character too. He likes to climb the steps of our conservatory and rearrange the furniture, and he’s always trying to get across the wall to where the females are.

“He has put on a bit of weight lately and is now nine and a half stone.”

There’s also a chance to see hedgehogs and learn how to protect them.

Entry is free, but donations are highly appreciated .
