IT was an afternoon to forget for North Petherton who crashed to a ten wicket defeat at the hands of North Perrott in the Somerset Division of the WEPL’s top of the table clash.

Batting first, Pethy - who headed into the game in top spot - were bowled out for just 101 in 32 overs, with only four players making it into double figures and three players out without scoring.

Lewis Irish (18) top scored for the hosts, but four wickets from Joshua Marshall-James (4-36) and two from Stacy Hawes (2-24) condemned them to a heavy defeat.

In reply, Perrott eased home with more than 20 overs to spare, thanks to a steady effort from openers Alex Eckland (58no) and Gordon Whorlow (36no).

Ian Blackwell conceded just two runs from six overs, but it wasn’t enough for Pethy who slip to second.

In Division One of the Somerset Cricket League, it was also a less than memorable afternoon for Bridgwater A, whose slumped to a 161-run defeat at Bagborough.

C Hallett (9) top scored Bridgwater as they were dismissed for just 40, in reply to Bagborough’s 201 all out.

Elsewhere in Division One, Middlezoy fell ten runs short at table-topping Cheddar, despite 46 from N Jones.

Chasing 181 for victory, after three wickets from P Tilling (3-41) and N Barnard (3-33) had kept Cheddar below 200, Zoy finished up 170-9 at the end of 45 overs.

Other notable contributions came from J Lacey (34 and M Troman (20).

In Division Four, Mark suffered a seven-wicket defeat at home to Taunton Deane Cavaliers after managing just 116-9 from 45 overs.

S Mason (37) and J Barwell (23) were the pick of the Mark batsmen, but their total was a long way short of being competitive and Taunton Deane cruised home in 31 overs.

S Mason was also the pick of the bowlers, with 2-18.

Seven wickets from J Briggers fired Middlezoy 2nd XI to a ten-wicket triumph at home to Taunton Deane Crusaders in Division Seven, in a game that lasted just 44 overs.

Briggers returned figures of 7-13 from 10.4 overs to help dismiss Deane for just 73, before M Wilkins (40no) and G White (24no) knocked off the runs in 11.2 overs.

Elsewhere in the division, Wembdon Wyverns were five-wicket winners over North Petherton 2nd XI, thanks mainly to 67 from Keith Futcher.

Ed Howes (2-16), A Cook (2-36), S Edmunds (2-49) and G Howes (2-15) took two wickets apiece for the Wyverns as Pethy were bowled out for 202 batting first – before Futcher, S Pigden (45), B Stone (29) and M Smith (28) all chipped in to see the Wyverns home in comfortable fashion.

L Winter (3-27) was the standout bowler for North Petherton.

In Division 8N, W Pither scored a match-winning hundred for Spaxton as they thrashed Bridgwater Sports by 221 runs.

Pither (116) led the Spaxton charge and was well supported by R Brewer (72) to help them post a commanding 332 all out.

The Sports reply was brief, thanks to three wickets from H Fisher (3-12) and two apiece for R Parish (2-51) and R Brewer (2-25) - they were bowled out for 101 inside 24 overs.

Also in 8N, Wembdon Academy were on the receiving end of a brutal batting display from Banwell and Churchill, who amassed 320-2 batting first, while Wembdon could only muster 226-5.

P Tilley (85no) and L Hawkins (61) starred in the reply, but the damage was done by R Hutchinson (109no), M Caddick (69) and D Pye (69) earlier in the afternoon.
