RESIDENTS in the Bridgwater area are being urged by police to think about the safety of their garden shed after a seasonal increase in shed break-ins.
Key targets for thieves range from lawn mowers and gardening equipment to bicycles and power tools.
In many cases proper locks have not been fitted to the sheds and high value items have been an easy target for an opportunist thief.
Inspector Nic Crocker said: "As the warmer days get nearer, many people turn their minds to sprucing up their gardens.
"They purchase new lawnmowers and strimmers but don't think about the level of security they have on their shed.
"We want to remind residents to put away all tools and equipment and lock up. Mark your equipment and bikes with your postcode and house number or the first two letters of your house name.
"Make sure you have an adequate lock on your shed.
"By spending a small amount of money you could save hundreds of pounds and a lot of heartache in the long run."
