THE atmosphere at a big fund-raising event in Bridgwater was a big hit with young and old all helping to raise awareness of a genetic condition. World Neurofibromatosis Day – Feel the Force Day:

Invasion Bridgwater took place on Saturday afternoon to raise awareness of the condition affecting threeyear- old Tayen Gilbert.

The youngster, who will have to have chemotherapy for the rest of her life and has lost her sight due to the rare disorder, enjoyed feeling the sci-fi costumes and having her face painted.

Neurofibromatosis is the general name for a number of genetic conditions that cause tumours to grow along the nerves. Guests included one of the original storm troopers from the Star Wars films, Chris Bunn and Virginia Hey, of Farscape.

The total raised on the day was £1078.97.
