BRIDGWATER welcomed its new Mayor on Friday night when local man Leigh Redman accepted the honour.
At a ceremony infront of dignitaries, friends and family in St Mary's Church the former firefighter thanked his fellow town councillors for nominating him and said: "I have loved our town for all of my life, too often people speak about it in a negative way, I am honoured to have been chosen, by this council to represent it for the coming year."
After a brief ceremony when the Mayoral chains were handed over by cllr Dave Loveridge who was Mayor 2013/14, the new Mayor and Mayoress led the way to the town hall for the reception.
Speaking to the Mercury the new Mayor of Bridgwater said:"It's a massive honour.
"I'm overwhelmed by the fact that I was nominated.
"I'm a Bridgwater boy and I never dreamed that I would be Mayor.
"It's a great opportunity to represent Bridgwater and promote the town and all it's benefits."
